Statement of Belief

Here are the foundational truths that guide our faith and practice at Newton Life Church. These beliefs anchor our teachings, inspire our community, and shape our mission to reflect the love and truth of Christ in all that we do.

We believe there is one God who eternally exists as the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. The Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit are equally God but distinct Persons.

We believe the authors of the 66 books in the Old Testament and the New Testament are inspired by God to write down the very word of God to mankind.

We believe the Holy Spirit convicts the world of sin, righteousness and judgment, and He regenerates spiritually dead sinners, awakening them to repentance and desire to believe in God. The Holy Spirit indwells, guides, instructs, equips and empowers believers for Christ-like living and service.

We believe God created all things, visible and invisible, and is therefore worthy to receive all praises and adoration. We believe God created human beings, male and female, in His own image.

We believe Adam and Eve fell into sin through Satan’s temptation. They disobeyed God’s command and were banished from the Garden of Eden. As a result, all human beings are spiritually alienated from God, corrupted in every aspect of their being and condemned to death. Therefore, the greatest need of all human beings is to be reconciled to God.

We believe Jesus became human, fully God and fully human being, one Person in two natures. We believe that by his incarnation, life, death, resurrection, and ascension, Jesus Christ acted as our representative and substitute. He bore the full penalty of our sins and reconciled us who believe in Him to God.

We believe that Jesus is the head of the church. The church is a community of Disciples of Christ whose lives have been transformed by Christ. The disciples come together in worship to re-present the gospel. The church’s mission is to make disciples of Christ.

We believe that both the Baptism and the Holy Communion are visible presentations of the gospel performed by the church. Baptism identifies a Christian with Jesus, the universal church, and the local church. The Holy Communion reminds us of the death of Jesus Christ in our place for our sins.

We believe in the return of our Lord Jesus Christ, when he will exercise his role as final Judge. We believe in the bodily resurrection of both the righteous and the unrighteous—the unrighteous to judgment and eternal punishment in hell, and the righteous to eternal blessedness in the presence of God, in the new heaven and the new earth.
